    Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

    Offers technical repair and problem diagnosis to campus Irrigation Supervisor for maintaining campus irrigation systems and fountains. Responsible for daily system checks and includes plumbing, low
    voltage electrical, mechanical and system control repairs. In the absence of the Irrigation supervisor will handle work task requests and overall systems oversight.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Experience:
    Four years progressively responsible experience in the trade(s) where assigned to include at least one year in a lead or supervisory capacity. In a Non-Supervisory/Leader position, 5 years of experience is required.

    Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Comprehensive knowledge of and skill in the methods and techniques of the trade(s) where assigned, tis includes; working knowledge of irrigation systems, fountains and water conservation. Comprehensive knowledge of the practices and techniques of irrigation landscape construction, and/or irrigation practices and techniques of irrigation maintenance, of plant material and their water needs, and of OSHA regulations related to the trade(s) area.
    • Thorough knowledge of and skill in the practical application of electronics, hydraulics, and mechanics as used in maintenance work; of basic mathematics including area, volume, weights and the practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions; of the care and storage of equipment and supplies used in the area where assigned.
    • General knowledge of the principles of supervision in the maintenance trades.
    • Skill in the use and maintenance of the tools and equipment of the trade(s) where assigned.

    Job Title: Grounds Keeper/ Flex Crew

    JOB SUMMARY:

    Carries out all grounds maintenance including trash pick-up, deliveries, mowing, trimming, edging, blowing, mulching, fertilizing, weeding, planting, watering, leaf removal, and snow removal.  Acts as general laborer to assist with other projects such as turf and landscape renovations, irrigation projects, office moves, and special work orders.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    1. Follows the direction of the Assistant Director of Horticulture and Grounds in mowing, edging, athletic field maintenance, snow removal, moves, deliveries, special projects and other assigned tasks.
    2. Daily trash pick-up/removal as required.  
    3. Performs deliveries including loading, unloading, moving and set-up of furniture, equipment and boxes as needed.
    4. Plants, mulches, and prunes shrubs, trees and plant material using proper horticultural techniques under direct supervision.
    5. Weeds turf areas and mulch beds, and may assist with fertilizing under direct supervision.
    6. Understands and follows proper turf practices and an Integrated Pest Management Program.
    7. Recognizes and reports water demands of plant material in assigned areas.
    8. Operates all equipment and tools safely and properly.  Returns cleaned tools and equipment to proper place.
    9. Follows proper techniques of soil preparation, plant installation, and pesticide application under direct supervision.
    10. Keeps hardscapes blown, edged, and cleaned after mowing and when directed additionally. Assist gardeners in cleaning drains and catch basins before and after storms.
    11. Shovels snow, spreads salt and sand, and operates snow removal equipment safely.
    12. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).

    Job Summary:

    Implements athletic field and turf maintenance and assists in general maintenance and upkeep on all properties on the Cathedral Close.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Undertakes field preparation for sports and other field maintenance duties in a timely manner.  Under the direction of the Assistant Director, coordinates activities with/between the athletic departments, STA Fields Groundkeeper and Groundskeeper/Flex Crew.
    • Assists Assistant Director in implementing turf maintenance program for the Close and works with the groundskeeper/turf crew member to ensure superior turf and proper maintenance.
    • Under the direction of the Assistant Director, provides technical assistance on all proper turf practices and oversees the Integrated Pest Management Program for turf.
    • Assists Irrigation Specialist with maintenance on Foundation irrigation systems, including installation, maintenance and repairs. As needed, assists with a wide range of grounds-related tasks throughout the year including general maintenance, snow removal, leaf removal, Flower Mart, and landscape renovations.
    • Cleans and returns all tools and equipment to proper storage area.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    • Two to three years' work experience in turf management on a golf course, public garden, or synthetic athletic field.

    Athletic Field Technician Position Description

    Perform skilled and semi-skilled labor in the various aspects of Athletic Field Maintenance. Directly participate in the maintenance and preparation of playing surfaces, train subordinate staff members in techniques to maintain athletic fields. Follow operational procedures to optimally maintain the playing surface of the field. Experience, special skills, knowledge, and abilities to maintain athletic fields at the highest competitive levels are required.

    Receives general supervision from the Operations Manager. Exercises supervision over technicians.

    Examples of Important Responsibilities and Duties:  Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Perform athletic field and grounds maintenance including aeration, grading, topdressing, seeding, sodding, trimming, field painting, turf care, fertilizing; apply plant protectant materials including insecticides, herbicides, soil conditioners and related materials; follow proper safety precautions; care of trees and shrubs.  2. Perform infield maintenance and repair work of baseball/softball fields including repairing bases, pitching mounds, batter’s boxes and transition areas of infield and outfield.  3. Perform tilling, rolling and fertilizing soil; construct new planting areas and maintain high traffic wear areas on athletic fields.  4. Identify equipment needs for each assigned project; organize work methods and procedures; ensure that the proper materials are available.  5.     Qualifications: Ability to lift and carry 50-pound bags of materials. Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience: Three years of experience and/or college degree in turf management, horticulture, parks and recreation, or a related field. Training: Equivalent to a high school diploma with additional specialized training or educational training in grounds maintenance, horticulture or a related field. Licenses and Certificates: Possession of valid driver’s license. Ability to obtain state Pest Control Applicator and Professional Fertilizer Applicator certificates.

    Working and Environmental Conditions:  Field environment; exposure to dust and dirt, hazards associated with operating a motor vehicle, various chemicals including fertilizers and pesticides, contagious conditions including poison oak and inclement weather conditions.     Qualifications

    Full Job Description

    Turf Equipment and Supply Company is searching for a new Finn Product Specialist to manage the Maryland and DC territory. This position will entail statewide travel, including Washington, DC, but is based in Jessup, MD. The necessary travel will involve using a company-provided vehicle with regular maintenance, fuel, and company-provided insurance. The listed salary is a starting base salary with available commission. This position will include managing a landscaper portfolio to serve customers' commercial equipment needs. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who is highly organized, and eager to make connections. This position will require customer discovery and forging new customer relationships through our Finn product line.     Responsibilities:

    • Regular meetings with existing customers
    • Cultivating new customers
    • Providing support to service & parts department
    • Scheduling demonstrations for equipment as expressed by customer needs
    • Training as necessary for equipment when delivered to customers
    • Building and creating proposals for customers
    • Filling out daily call reports
    • Use and integration of social media to understand and follow industry trends

    Qualifications:

    • At least 1 year of sales experience is required
    • At least 1 year of equipment experience is required
    • English and Spanish speaking is preferred
    • Finn product knowledge is preferred
    • A valid driver's license is required
    • Ability to take and pass a DOT physical certification every 2 years

    Pay: From $40,000.00 per year
